The short version of a long history
-
A museum in a house
Founded by a group of Miami teachers as the Junior Museum of Miami, in a donated home in Coconut Grove.
-
Vizcaya, and a planetarium
Moved to South Miami Avenue as the Museum of Science, adding the Space Transit Planetarium.
-
Museum Park
Opened the current building — four levels, a 500,000-gallon Gulf Stream aquarium and a 67-foot dome.
-
ReeFLorida
Launched coral restoration as a permanent research programme, not a temporary exhibition.
The coral in the gallery tank is the same coral our scientists plant on the reef.
